    0.03 sec.
Popov, Fedot Alekseev

Dates of birth and death unknown. Russian explorer.

In 1647 Popov organized a sea expedition to search for new fishing and hunting areas and to reach the Anadyr’ River. Among those who took part in the expedition was S. I. Dezhnev. The expedition was unsuccessful owing to severe ice conditions. In 1648, Popov and Dezhnev made a second attempt to reach the mouth of the Anadyr’ by sea. The expedition left from the mouth of the Kolyma River, sailed eastward along the coastline, and passed through the Bering Strait. Popov reached Kamchatka, where he later died.
