Popovici, Titus

Born May 16, 1930, in Oradea. Rumanian author and screenwriter.

Popovici graduated from the philology department of the University of Bucharest in 1953. His novel Stranger (1955; Russian translation, 1961) and Thirst (1958; Russian translation 1960) give a broad social and psychological picture of two crucial events in Rumanian history: the liberation of the country from fascism in 1944 and the agrarian reforms of 1949. Popovici is also the author of the play Passacaglia (1960) and the screenplays for the historical films The Dacians (1967), The Colonna (1968), and Michael the Brave (1969).
