First, we wanted to determine if Sumgayit populations exhibit reduced levels of genetic diversity that could be the result of a population bottleneck.
The genetic picture suggests that about 10,000 years ago, the truffle endured a population bottleneck, a massive die-off that left only a few survivors to repopulate the range, the researchers say.
The east African results suggest that two major population bottlenecks occurred in the cheetah population.
