Powell, Lawrence Clark

Powell, Lawrence Clark (1906–  ) librarian, author, critic; born in Washington, D.C. He was raised in California where his father, a noted agronomist, managed Sunkist Growers. After spending most of his career as a library administrator at the University of California: Los Angeles, he moved to the University of Arizona (1971) to teach English and write about the American Southwest. A recognized expert on the works of poet (and fellow Occidental College graduate) Robinson Jeffers, he wrote hundreds of articles and reviews and more than a dozen books, including The Alchemy of Books (1954) and Books in My Baggage (1960).
