Chris Williams, from the West Midlands Green Party, claimed that unless the electricity to power cars came from renewable resources Britain would not become any greener.
However due to enormous pressure from the big gas and oil companies a lot of the information about hydrogen for cars, and water power cars has been suppressed and even ridiculed.
While carmakers, including Toyota, say they don't expect fuel cells to be used widely to power cars until 2010 or so, within the industry there is a fierce race to get the new engines in cars and on the market sooner than that.
