PoweredUSB

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.03 sec.

PoweredUSB

An enhanced USB cable from IBM that includes six amps of 5, 12 and 24 volt power. PoweredUSB was designed to connect USB peripherals that need more than .5 amps (standard USB) of power in a single USB cable. The power is transferred in separate wires within the cable.

Combined Plug and Socket
At the host computer side, a power socket sits directly on top of the standard USB socket, and the PoweredUSB plug is a single unit that is inserted into both cavities at the same time. The power plugs and sockets are keyed to one of the three voltages.

At the peripheral side, the connector for the cable's power line is not mandated by IBM and can be left up to the product manufacturer. See USB.
