Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park Location: On US 62 in the community of Prairie Grove. Facilities: Exhibits, small pavilion. Activities: Guided tours or self-guided tours, including a one-mile Battlefield Trail or a five-mile driving tour. Special Features: Park protects one of America's most intact Civil War battlefields where, on December 7, 1862, the Confederate army clashed with Union troops. In one day of fierce fighting, casualties on both sides numbered about 2,700. Exhibits, tours, and other programs describe the battle and its local effects. A battle reenactment takes place biennially on even-numbered years the first week-end in December.
