A person's availability to communicate right now. It typically refers to one's online status for instant messaging (IM), which can be changed by the user or set automatically by the IM client after a certain amount of time without keyboard or mouse activity. However, unified communications requires presence to be managed in e-mail and phone systems that are integrated with the instant messaging in order to locate people no matter where they are.
