pressure drop [′presh·ər ‚dräp]
(fluid mechanics)
The difference in pressure between two points in a flow system, usually caused by frictional resistance to a fluid flowing through a conduit, filter media, or other flow-conducting system.

pressure drop
The decrease in fluid pressure between two ends of a duct or pipeline, between two points in a system, across valves and fittings, etc., due to frictional losses; in a water-piping system a drop in fluid pressure also occurs between two points as a result of the difference in elevation between the two points.

The calculation of pressure drop for polymer melt flow through such dies is of considerable practical importance to the design engineer (1), The importance of converging dies in experimental rheology to assess the extensional rheological properties of polymers was stressed and examined by Cogswell (3), (4).
Ward and Siegel (2005) presented a mathematical model to quantify the effective filter efficiency, based on the flow through the filter, the pressure drop across the filter, and the geometry of the filter gap.
The prime advantage of FlowControl is said to be that only a slight pressure drop occurs in the nozzle when compared to customary valve gated cold runner blocks.
