Priest, James Percy (1900–56) U.S. representative; born in Carters Creek, Tenn. A schoolteacher (1920–26) and journalist (1926–40) before going to Congress (Dem., Tenn.; 1941–56), he served as majority whip (1945–47) and chaired the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee.
