The report states that "potentially serious changes have been identified, including an increase in some regions in the incidence of extreme high-temperature events, floods, and droughts, with resultant consequences for fires, pest outbreaks, and ecosystem composition, structure, and functioning, including primary productivity.
Scientists at the University of Toronto and at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Christchurch, New Zealand, compared data on the global distribution of diadromas fish (fish that migrate between the ocean and fresh water) with patterns of primary productivity in various aquatic environments.
