Ewing sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) are closely related, high-grade, round-cell tumors with a neuroectodermal phenotype. Owing to the "small, round, blue-cell" nature of the neoplasm, the differential diagnosis is quite broad; it includes melanoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma, lymphoma, Ewing's sarcoma, pituitary adenoma, plasmacytoma, paraganglioma, and primitive neuroectodermal tumor. However, there is a broad histologic differential diagnosis, which includes melanoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, lymphoma, olfactory neuroblastoma, Ewing's sarcoma, and primitive neuroectodermal tumors. |
