a mountain range in the Baikal Region, Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR, extending along the western shore of Lake Baikal from its south end for 350 km. Elevations reach 1,728 m (Trekhgolovyi Bald Mountain). The Primorskii Range is composed primarily of Proterozoic sandstones, limestones, gneisses, and granites. The eastern slope falls steeply to Baikal in rocky precipices, whereas the western slope inclines gently. Karst is developed. The slopes are covered with pine and larch forests, and on the northern half of the eastern slope, with steppes. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
