Princeton Battlefield State Park Location: On Mercer Road (Princeton Pike) in Princeton, 1.5 miles south of Princeton University and 3.8 miles north of I-295/95. Facilities: Historic sites, trails. Activities: Historical programs, cross-country skiing, birdwatching. Special Features: Park commemorates the historic Battle of Princeton, fought on January 3, 1777, in which General George Washington won his first victory against the British Regulars on the field. In addition to the battlefield, the park includes the Clarke House Museum, a state historic site containing period furniture as well as Revolutionary War exhibits, and the Ionic Colonnade designed by Thomas U. Walter (architect of the US Capitol Building), a stone patio marking the grave of 21 British and 15 American soldiers killed in the battle.
