Prokop the Great
(Prokop Veliký, Prokop Holý). Born circa 1380; died May 30, 1434. Leader in the Hussite revolutionary movement. Prior to 1425, Prokop was a Taborite preacher. In 1426 he became the chief political and military leader of the Taborites. Prokop led the Hussite troops during their victorious battles against the army of the German emperor at Ústí nad Labem in 1426 and against the Crusaders at Tachov in 1427 and Domažlice in 1431. He provided the inspiration and the organization for the Hussite campaigns beyond the borders of Bohemia from 1427 to 1433. Prokop strove to reconcile disagreements within the ranks of the Hussites.
