Program Files The folder in a Windows computer that contains application subfolders. During installation, most applications create a new folder within the Program Files folder to hold their files. The Program Files folder is in alphabetical order like all other folders in a Windows machine and can be easily viewed in Explorer.Program Files Vs. Program Files (x86) Starting with Windows Vista, the 64-bit versions of Windows have two Program Files folders. The regular Program Files folder holds 64-bit applications, while Program Files (x86) is used for 32-bit applications. Installing a 32-bit application in a PC with a 64-bit Windows automatically gets directed to Program Files (x86). See Programs Menu and x86. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
