Proletarskoe Reservoir

a reservoir in Rostov-on-Don Oblast, Kalmyk ASSR, and Stavropol’ Krai. Formed by a dam on the Manych River, it was filled between 1939 and 1941. Its area is 798 sq km, and Lake Manych-Gudilo is located at the head. The reservoir has a volume of 2.03 cu km, a length of 190 km, a maximum width of 13 km, and an average depth of 2.6 m. The level varies within 1.5 m. The reservoir provides seasonal control of the water flow for the purposes of water transport and is used for raising fish and for irrigation and power engineering.
