C10H12O3Colorless crystals or white powder with a melting point of 95-98°C; soluble in acetone, ether, and alcohol; used in medicine and as a food preservative and fungicide.

Lush uses minimal levels of two preservatives in its products (as opposed to five or six more commonly used by other companies) and the safest and mildest they know - methyl and propyl paraben.
Some examples are ethyl, benzyl, butyl, isobutyl and propyl parabens.
This 2006 conference assembled research data on additives such as annatto extracts, lycopene synthetics and propyl paraben, using toxicological monographs to provide summaries of safety levels.
