protocol stack |
Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.04 sec. |
protocol stackThe set of protocols used in a communications network. A protocol stack is a prescribed hierarchy of software layers, starting from the application layer at the top (the source of the data being sent) to the data link layer at the bottom (transmitting the bits on the wire). The stack resides in each client and server, and the layered approach lets different protocols be swapped in and out to accommodate different network architectures. For more details about each layer, see OSI model.

E[acute accent]The iSPAN 3650 and iSPAN 3651 AdvancedMCs are based on the Wintegra(R) WinPath2 processor and are designed to enable seamless interworking of ATM and IP network services along with bridging and routing application software and other protocol suites developed by Interphase. For the traditionally complex integration tasks, Mindspeed offers all necessary protocol suites, ATM signaling software, and industry-standard voice codecs. The GR2000 supports basic IPv6 protocol suites including RIPng and BGP4+. |
