Protozoologists, All-Union Society of 

an organization uniting protozoologists who study Protozoa from general, medical, veterinary, and agricultural points of view. The society was created in 1968 under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; its headquarters are located in Leningrad at the Institute of Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The first All-Union Congress of Protozoologists was held in Baku in 1971. In 1975 the society had 18 divisions in Soviet republics and at scientific centers of the USSR and embraced more than 800 members. Each division regularly conducts scientific sessions, engages in activities to explain and publicize the tasks of protozoology, and provides comprehensive consultative services to physicians and veterinarians. Iu. I. Polianskii has been the society’s president since 1968.
