Prudden, T. (Theophil) Mitchell (1849–1924) pathologist; born in Middlebury, Conn. After graduating from Yale Medical School, he continued his medical studies in Europe. As a professor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, he was the first American to make the diphtheria antitoxin, used to check an epidemic. In 1901 he became a scientific director of the Rockefeller Institute. He coauthored the Handbook of Pathological Anatomy and Histology (1885), and, an avid amateur paleontologist, wrote On the Great American Plateau (1906). How to thank TFD for its existence?
