Prunoideae

(also Amygdaloideae), a subfamily of plants of the family Rosaceae. The more or less concave flower receptacle is often patelliform or tubular. There are ten to 20 stamens, attached to the edge of the receptacle. There is usually one carpel, which is not fused with the receptacle. Of the two ovules, only one develops into a seed. The fruit is a drupe, usually having juicy flesh around the seed and a woody endocarp. The subfamily includes many fruit trees, for example, apricot, peach, cherry, plum, blackthorn, cherry plum, almond, cherry laurel, and bird cherry.
