All decisions as to the type of public key certificate format, revocation, and so on can be handled directly at the server and transparently to the applications themselves. The distributed validation approach is more proactive in that it involves digitally signing individual pieces of information about any public key certificate, then distributing and storing that information on unprotected, local responders. Privacy is protected by three distinct levels of protection: password access, 128-bit encryption and a secure sockets layer with a public key certificate. |
