Pugachev, Vladimir Semenovich
Born Mar. 12 (25), 1911, in Riazan’. Soviet scientist in mechanics, problems of control, and mathematics. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1943. After his graduation in 1931 from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy, Pugachev taught and did research at the academy from 1932 to 1972; he became a professor in 1939. Since 1972 he has taught at the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute of Aviation. In 1956 he became head of a laboratory of the Institute of Problems of Control. Pugachev’s main works are devoted to the statistical theory of control processes, flight dynamics, and the theory of canonical expansions of random functions. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1948), the Order of Lenin, and six other orders, as well as several medals.
