Pur 

a river in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Tiu-men’ Oblast, RSFSR. The Pur is formed by the confluence of the Piakupur and Aivasedapur rivers, which originate on the northern slopes of the Siberian Uvaly. It is 389 km long and drains an area of 112,000 sq km; from the source of the Piakupur, it measures 1,024 km long.

The Pur meanders northward over the Western Siberian Plain; the lower course branches into several arms. The river empties into Taz Bay of the Kara Sea. The Pur is fed by snow and rain. The mean flow rate is 1,040 cu m per sec, and the maximum flow rate reaches 10,000 cu m per sec. The Pur freezes in November, and the ice breaks up in May. The river is navigable. The Urengoi Gas Deposit and the Gubkin Gas and Oil Deposits of the Western Siberian Oil and Gas Basin are located in the Pur River basin.
