Name Origin: For the Pushmataha district of the Choctaw Nation, named for the noted Choctaw chief (c.1765-1824) who served with Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) and is buried in the Congressional Cemetery. The name may mean 'ready to be a sapling,' ie., now grown to be a young man; or 'qualified sapling,' indicating a rank to which he belonged.
