Putnam Memorial State Park Location: 3 miles south of Bethel on Route 58. Facilities: Youth group camping areas, museum, interpretive trail, pit toilets. Activities: Pond fishing, ice skating, hiking, field sports, picnicking. Special Features: Park is the site of the Continental Army's 1779 winter encampment under the command of General Israel Putnam. The site includes remains of the encampment, reconstructed log buildings, and a museum.
