 was begun in the mid-1990s. In 1999 government offices, including that of the prime minister, began moving to new capital, which is marked by modern domed buildings and landscaped gardens. Putrajaya was named a federal territory in 2001. The city is part of an ambitious Malaysian scheme, the Multimedia Supercorridor, a projected business zone replete with high-technology facilities, intended to run from the soaring Petronas Towers Petronas Towers, twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that are the world's tallest twin towers. Standing 1,483 ft (452 m) high, they were designed by the Argentinean-American architect Cesar Pelli.

At the 10th session of the Islamic Summit Conference held in Putrajaya, Malaysia on 20 October 2003, heads of State and Government from 57 countries adopted a resolution, which was presented by the Government of Malaysia and other members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), urging polio-endemic OIC countries to accelerate their efforts to wipe out the disease.
