Puzyrev, Nikolai Nikitovich
Born Nov. 9 (22), 1914, in the village of Iakovlevo, in what is now Elabuga Raion, Tatar ASSR. Soviet geophysicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Puzyrev studied at Leningrad State University from 1936 to 1941. From 1945 to 1950 he directed geophysical research in the Kazakh SSR. From 1951 to 1959 he worked at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Geophysical Prospecting Methods in Moscow, and since 1959 he has worked at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Novosibirsk. His main works are devoted to the development of the seismic method of reflected waves, borehole seismometry, and the method of regional seismic investigations of the earth’s crust and outer mantle and to devising a method of seismic research based on the recording of transverse and exchange waves.
