Pylaev, Georgii Nikolaevich 

Born Apr. 24, 1894, in the village of Prokudino, now in Griazovets Raion, Vologda Oblast; died Oct. 26, 1937. Soviet party official. Member of the Communist Party from 1912. Son of a peasant.

Pylaev engaged in party work in Moscow, Sormovo, and Pe-trograd and was arrested more than once and exiled. He participated in the February Revolution of 1917 in Petrograd, became a member of the Vyborg district soviet, and participated in the October Armed Uprising. In the Red Army from July 1918, he was military commissar of V. M. Azin’s 28th Rifle Division in 1919. Pylaev served as a military adviser in Persia in 1920. As commander of the Donets Labor Army in 1921, he was one of the leaders in the restoration of the Donbas and in the rout of Makhno’s bands in the Ukraine. From 1924, Pylaev was chairman of the Sverdlovsk okrug executive committee and a member of the bureau of the okrug committee of the party. From 1927 to 1934 he took up party work in Leningrad and was a member of the bureau of the oblast committee of the ACP (Bolshevik).

In 1934, Pylaev became a commissioner of the Commission of Soviet Control for Donetsk Oblast. He was a delegate to the Thirteenth through Seventeenth Party Congresses and was elected a member of the Central Auditing Commission at the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Sixteenth Congresses and a member of the Commission of Soviet Control at the Seventeenth Congress. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
