Pyshnov, Vladimir Sergeevich
Born Feb. 21 (Mar. 3), 1901, in Moscow. Soviet scientist specializing in the aerodynamics of airplanes. Lieutenant general of the engineers; Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1942). Pyshnov graduated from the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy in 1925. He has taught at the academy since 1926; he became a professor in 1939. From 1949 to 1968 he was chairman of the aircraft section of the Scientific and Technical Committee. His main works deal with the theory of spin and the controllability, stability, and maneuverability of aircraft. He has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, four other orders, and medals.
