Q-switched laser [′kyü ‚swicht ′lā·zər]
(optics)
A laser whoseQfactor is kept at a low value while an ion population inversion is built up, and then is suddenly switched to a high value just before instability occurs, resulting in a very high rate of stimulated emission. Also known as giant pulse laser.
