Qazvini, Zakariyya Ibn Muhammad, Al 

Born 1203 in Qazvin; died 1283. Arab scholar and writer.

Al-Qazvini is the author of the cosmographic work Wonders of Creation and Remarkable Things in Existence, which contains a description of the world in a simple and entertaining form. It is one of the few Arabic books accompanied by illustrations. The second part of the work, “Monuments of Cities and News of People,” sometimes considered an independent work, devotes much space to biographies of famous people, including Persian poets.
