quadratic equation

Algebraic equation of particular importance in optimization. A more descriptive name is second-degree polynomial equation. Its standard form is ax2 + bx + c = 0, and its solution is given by the quadratic formula which guarantees two real-number solutions, one real-number solution, or two complex-number solutions, depending on whether the discriminate, b2 − 4ac, is greater than, equal to, or less than 0.

quadratic equation [kwä′drad·ik i′kwā·zhən]
(mathematics)
Any second-degree polynomial equation.

The quadratic model showed that the maximal OGG1 response was at an As exposure level of 149 [micro]g/L and that OGG1 expression leveled off or decreased when As exposure was higher than this concentration.
Since there was only one predictor variable in a simple regression analysis, the model selection was not to determine which predictor variables or what combination of them to include as in multiple regression analysis, but to compare with higher level models such as a quadratic model.
In this case, a quadratic model has been specified (as can be seen by the stars flagging the second order polynomial).
