Quartermaster General
a staff position in several armies (including those of Great Britain and prerevolutionary Russia). In the staffs, the quartermasters general were in charge of the planning of military operations. In Russia the position was established in 1701. There were directorates in the Main Directorate of the General Staff and at Headquarters, as well as departments in the staffs of the fronts and armies under the authority of the quartermaster general.
