Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Rävala

a coastal region (maakond) in North Estonia, in what is now Harju Raion, Estonian SSR. Rävala consisted of three territorial unions (kihelkonds). The center of the region in the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries was a fortress known as Kolõvan’ or Lindanise. Under Danish rule, the region was united with the region of Harju and given the name Harjumaa (Harden). The old name of Tallinn, Revel (or Reval), derives from the name of the region.
