Komárno

Komárno (kô`märnô) or Komárom (kô`märôm), Ger. Komorn, city of Slovakia and Hungary, on both sides of the Danube, at its confluence with the Nitra and Váh rivers. Komárno (1991 pop. 37,346) is located on the left bank and belongs to Slovakia. It is a transport center and has machinery and textile plants. Hungarian Komárom (1991 est. pop. 19,552), on the right bank, has lumber yards, sawmills, and textile plants. Both parts of the city have port facilities. The site of Komárno was fortified by the Romans. It became a free city in 1331. Later a part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy Austro-Hungarian Monarchy or Dual Monarchy, the Hapsburg empire from 1867 until its fall in 1918. The Nature of Austria-Hungary

Komárno 

a city (since 1940) in Gorodok Raion, L’vov Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the Vereshchitsa River in the Dnestr River basin, 4 km from the Komarno-Buchaly station on the L’vov-Sambor line. Gas extraction and fishing are leading branches of the city’s economy.


Komárno 

a city in southern Czechoslovakia, in the Slovak Socialist Republic, in West Slovakia. Population, 27,400 (1971). It is a port on the Danube, at the mouth of the Váh River. Leading industries include shipbuilding (river and ocean-going ships) and food processing.
