Rem

(REMarks) A programming language statement used for documentation. Rem statements are not executed by the compiler. They are created for people to read. Rem is also used in DOS batch files for comments as well as for disabling instructions. For example, inserting the word rem at the beginning of a line in AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS prevents the executable function on that line from taking place. See DOS Rem.

REM1
abbreviation for rapid eye movement

REM, rem2

(programming)REM - (From "remark") The keyword used in BASIC to introduce a comment (which continues to the end of the line). MS-DOS probably borrowed it from BASIC. Might be used in the form "REM out" meaning to comment out.
