RGBY

Also found in: Acronyms 0.01 sec.
RGBY
(RGB Yellow) An LCD display technology that adds a yellow subpixel to the standard red, green and blue (RGB) array in order to produce a wider color gamut. Wherever a yellow pixel is called for, instead of energizing the red and green subpixels to make yellow, the yellow pixel is energized. Since red/green pixel pairs are not exactly matched in manufacture, they do not produce a perfect yellow when combined. Therefore, the yellow pixel makes yellows more vibrant, and the entire picture appears richer because our eyes are more sensitive to green and yellow than to other colors. In 2010, Sharp began shipping LCD TVs with its Quattron brand RGBY technology. See RGB, RGBW and LCD.
