Rabassa, Gregory (1922– ) translator; born in Yonkers, N.Y. He taught at Columbia University (1947–68) and Queens College (1968). His National Book Award for his first translation, Julio Cortazar's Hopscotch (1966), was the first of many honors for dozens of translations bringing contemporary Latin American literature to American readers.
