Radbourn, (Charles Gardner) “Old Hoss” (1854–97) baseball pitcher; born in Rochester, N.Y. A right-hander who primarily pitched for Providence and Boston during his 12-year career (1880–91), he established the major league record for most wins in a season (60) in 1884. Nicknamed for his indefatigable willingness to pitch (he pitched in 678 innings in 1884), he was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1939.
