    0.01 sec.
Radchenko, Stepan Ivanovich

Born Jan. 26 (Feb. 7), 1869, in Konotop; died Aug. 11 (24), 1911, in St. Petersburg. Member of the Russian revolutionary movement. Brother of I. I. Radchenko.

Radchenko enrolled in the St. Petersburg Institute of Technology in 1887. He joined the revolutionary movement in 1890 and conducted propaganda in workers’ circles. In 1891 he joined the Brusnev group, later heading a Marxist circle of engineering students. An organizer of the St. Petersburg League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class and a member of its directing center in 1895 and 1896, Radchenko helped organize and participated in the first Congress of the RSDLP (1898) and was elected a member of the Central Committee. After the congress, he directed the writing, publication, and distribution of the Manifesto of the RSDLP. Radchenko also attended the Pskov Conference (April 1900), which was organized by V. I. Lenin to discuss the publication of an illegal newspaper abroad. Radchenko was repeatedly arrested. In 1904 he was exiled to Vologda but was amnestied in October 1905. He subsequently left political life.
