Radiocarpal Articulation

Also found in: Medical 0.01 sec.
Radiocarpal Articulation

the movable junction of the bones of the human forearm and hand.

The radiocarpal articulation is part of a combined wrist joint, since it actually joins only the radial bone with the proximal series (facing the trunk) of carpal bones. The socket of the articulation is formed by the broadened, concave surface of the radial bone and the deltoid cartilaginous disk attached to the radial bone at one end, and to the styloid process of the ulna at the other. The surfaces of the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral bones form the articular head. The radiocarpal articulation is ellipsoid in shape, permitting flexion and extension, abduction and adduction, and rotation of the hand.
