Radoslavov, Vasil

Born July 15, 1854, in Lovech; died Oct. 21, 1929, in Berlin. Bulgarian political and state figure.

Radoslavov graduated from the University of Heidelberg. He was minister of justice from 1884 to 1886, head of the cabinet and minister of internal affairs in 1886 and 1887, and minister of internal affairs from 1899 to 1901. His policy of terror against the Russophiles earned him the nickname Sopadzhiia—Man With the Stick. In 1887 he became leader of the Liberal Party—the Radoslavists. From 1913 to 1918, Radoslavov headed a liberal government, which drew the country into World War I (1914–18) on the side of the Austro-German bloc. Fearing the people’s revenge, Radoslavov fled during the Vladaia revolt of 1918 to Germany, where he died.
