Rainey, Henry Thomas (1860–1934) U.S. representative; born in Carrollton, Ill. A lawyer, he was master in chancery for Greene County, Ill. (1887–95). A Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives (1903–21), he would spend most of his life in Congress, with one break as a farmer after his only election loss. Returning to the House (1923–34), he became majority leader, then Speaker of the House (1933–34), before his untimely death. How to thank TFD for its existence?
