Rakhimov, Nabi 

Born Nov. 7, 1911, in Kokand. Soviet Uzbek actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1964). Became a member of the CPSU in 1945.

Beginning in 1926, Rakhimov took part in Kokand amateur theater. In 1929 he joined the company of the Uzbek Khamza Theater of Drama in Tashkent. Rakhimov’s best roles have included Iago and Lear in Shakespeare’s Othello and King Lear, Khlestakov in Gogol’s The Inspector-General, Etov and Mama-saliev in Uigun’s Mukhabbat and Flight, Borovskii in Lavre-nev’s To Those in the Sea!, Kuzyev in Kakhkhar’s Silk Siuzane, and Urganzhy in Iashen’s The Dawn of Revolution.

Rakhimov’s acting bears the stamp of keen social consciousness and is marked by clarity of portrayal. Rakhimov is effective in a broad range of roles, from the highly dramatic to the grotesque.

From 1946 to 1961, Rakhimov taught at the Tashkent Theatrical Institute. A recipient of the Khamza State Prize of the Uzbek SSR in 1967, he has also been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
