Rambutan

(Nephelium lappaceum), a fruit tree of the family Sapindaceae. The tree is 6–7 m tall (occasionally as tall as 20–25 m). The leaves are alternate and pinnate, and the flowers are inconspicuous and in axillary or apical inflorescences. The fruits, which have a diameter of 3–4.5 cm, are oval or, sometimes, globose. Their leathery pericarp is raspberry or, occasionally, yellow in color and has soft thorns. The seed bears a succulent and fleshy aromatic aril. Rambutan is native to the Malay Archipelago. It is cultivated for its edible fruits, mainly in tropical Asia, where there are numerous varieties.
