Rambutan
(Nephelium lappaceum), a fruit tree of the family Sapindaceae. The tree is 6–7 m tall (occasionally as tall as 20–25 m). The leaves are alternate and pinnate, and the flowers are inconspicuous and in axillary or apical inflorescences. The fruits, which have a diameter of 3–4.5 cm, are oval or, sometimes, globose. Their leathery pericarp is raspberry or, occasionally, yellow in color and has soft thorns. The seed bears a succulent and fleshy aromatic aril. Rambutan is native to the Malay Archipelago. It is cultivated for its edible fruits, mainly in tropical Asia, where there are numerous varieties. REFERENCESiniagin, I.I. Tropicheskoe zemledelie. Moscow, 1968.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
