Ramenskoe 

a city (under oblast jurisdiction) and administrative center of Ramenskoe Raion, Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Railroad station on the Moscow-Riazan’ line, 46 km southeast of Moscow. Population, 69,000(1974; 28,000 in 1939).

The first extant reference to the village of Ramen’e is in a document dating from 1328. In the 18th century weaving developed in the neighboring villages, and in the early 19th century a textile factory was constructed in Ramenskoe. The city’s main enterprise today is the Krasnoe Znamia Spinning and Weaving Combine. There also are plants for the production of steel structures, adding machines, and electrical machinery. The city has a medical school and a museum of local lore. Ramenskoe became a city in 1926.
