In east-central ND, northwest of Grand Forks; organized Jan 4, 1873 (prior to statehood) from Pembina County. Name Origin: For Alexander Ramsey (1815-1903), first governor of MN Territory, U.S. senator from MN (1863-75), and U.S. secretary of war (1879-81).

Area (sq mi): 1300.88 (land 1184.85; water 116.04). Pop per sq mi: 9.60.
